The Moody High School Wrestling season starts on November 14th with a tournament at Ray High School where we will compete against Ray, Miller and Uvalde High Schools. The Trojans have been practicing year-round including spring and summer; wrestling both Freestyle and Greco but the first official high school season practice began on October 10, 2017. In 2017-2018, Moody is expected to have a strong season with many returning State and Regional Qualifiers. With the success of our 2016-2017 season, we expect a larger group of participants/athletes (both boys and girls). The Moody High School Wrestling Team is always looking for new talent and is accepting new students until January 15.
Moody High School has several outstanding wrestlers this year starting with Kacie Rodrigues, a Senior, who placed in the top 8 at State in 2017; 6th at Folk style Nationals in Oklahoma and 7th at Freestyle Nationals in Fargo, North Dakota. We expect Kacie to place at State this year. Esteban Gallardo, who qualified for Freestyle Nationals, is a junior at 182 who came off an injury last year and is expected to make it to State and place. Several other wrestlers who wrestled strong in Regionals last year and who we expect to make it to State are Joaquin Soto (Senior); Rhoman Cueva (Junior); Israel Gomez (sophomore) and O’neal Davis (Senior). We are expecting big things from up-and-coming juniors, Mark Arvizu and Amanda Gutierrez who have been competing hard all summer and who are paving their road to State. Moody could have a possible 5 Guys and 3 girls make it all the way to State in the upcoming wrestling season.
Schedule will be up shortly.
